I found my stolen identity via Google

When’s the last time you Googled yourself? I do it for myself and my clients monthly for a couple reasons…to keep track of possible media mentions and to know exactly what people are seeing (web and images) when they search for me.

Trust me when I say people are indeed searching for you! With every new contact, job application, client pitch and speaking engagement you’d best believe that people are wanting to get the goods on  you (good, bad and indifferent). Google is the best way to do that. It will pull up your social media platforms, actual tweets, blog posts, articles and pictures. It even pulled up up pictures from my MySpace account circa 2007!

Never in a million years would I have guessed that I would find this…my name has been used for a character in a YouTube series. Not just any videos series, but a raunchy femme fatale assassin series. What!? Olivia Omega is the leader of an assassin ring and boss of a sexy british killer named Black Fox. My character is not sexy, but she does know how to use a gun. She was an assassin herself once before taking over the joint.

This takes personal branding and storytelling to a whole new level! Sheesh!

This is crazy right? What’s even more crazy is how unique my name is. It’s not like the writer pulled a random generic name out of thin air. But they used my name. I would like to think that there are no other Olivia Omega’s in the world! Not sure how I feel about this…shocked, violated, mad? What would you do in this situation?

While we can’t really control what is out there in Google land, we can make sure we are pushing positive things out into the Google-sphere so when we are searched for the good outweighs the bad (or raunchy). 🙂
