Today, I had the privilege of blogging for The Personal Program, an organization that helps young women reach their potential by building their self-esteem. Michelle Collins, founder, is an outstanding woman who understands the importance of guiding these girls in the way they should go.
My blog post entitled “The Power of the Selfie” touched on a topic that all girls are know about. Even my daughter (11) has been known to sneak my phone and take a plethora of self portraits. Unfortunately, the selfie has gotten a bad wrap.
But, I want to encourage my daughter, as she enters middle school this year, to love herself, and to show off her beauty…4 eyes, braces and all! Unlike our generation, my daughterhas the power to define her own definition of beauty at her fingertips, not relying on the media and or her friends. This Dove campaign will make you look at the selfie differently. I hope this video encourages you to take them and post them despite the possible negative connotations.
As a personal branding and social media strategist, I also encourage all of my clients to take selfies for this reason…to show self-love for themselves and for their brands. I even go as far as to make everyone take one and post it at the beginning of every workshop. One of the keys to personal branding is to remember that your face represents your brand and your expertise, so put it out there for the world to see!
Challenge: Take more selfies and use the hashtag #selfielove to show your self-love!
